Creating Fuel from Brown Grease Waste
Smisson-Mathis Energy Solutions (SMES) is an innovative energy and waste management company.
SMES created a technology to produce ultra-low sulfur ATSM D6751 and EN 14214 certified biodiesel from grease trap waste and fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from wastewater treatment plants. Our technology diverts this waste from disposal in landfills or land application.

How Our Patented Biodiesel Technology Works
There is no other company in the world that can convert Brown Grease to ultra-low sulfur distilled biodiesel.
Conversion
Our technology combines enzymatic and resin technologies to begin the process of converting grease waste to biodiesel.
Distillation
The advanced distillation process reduces sulfur levels to ASTM and EN requirements.
Completion
The completed process creates a superior biodiesel product to fuel today’s transportation marketplace.
Reducing Environmental Impact
Currently, private companies and municipalities dispose of Brown Grease in landfills or through land application. However, these solutions are not environmentally sustainable. Our groundbreaking technology impacts the Carbon Intensity (CI) of our fuel production and reduces the environmental effects of Brown Grease waste disposal by creating an opportunity for reuse.
Some benefits of our Brown Grease conversion technology include:
- Reuse of Brown Grease and FOG
- Reduce reliance on landfills
- Preserve our precious water supply
